Obituary of Eric (Ric) Myles
Ric Myles crossed his last goal-line peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on August 14, 2023 at the age of 80. He was the son of Frank and Jacqueline Myles and brother of Don (predeceased), Bruce and Gail. He is survived by his loving daughter Shelley (Patrick McKay) and his two grandchildren, Jack and Sam, who will miss him terribly.
He attended the University of Ottawa and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Commerce.
He was a talented athlete in multiple sports and held football records at both Fisher Park High School and the U of O. He played both linebacker and fullback and was a key member of the undefeated 1965 OIFC and OSLAA champions. He was among the nation’s leaders in rushing, gaining a season high record of over 700 yards on the ground including a game high 170 yards, a record that still ranks in the top 10 among Gee-Gee all-time ball carriers. He was proudly inducted into the Ottawa University Gee-Gees Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
He loved golf and hockey, and was a lifelong serious snooker and pool player, as his many close friends will attest.
Ric will be remembered as a gifted athlete, amazing father, wonderful Grampa, cherished friend and a lifelong buddy to all his pals. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.
At his request there will be no funeral. Friends and family are invited to share memories and celebrate Ric on September 23rd, from 1 to 4pm, at The Prescott Hotel Ottawa, where the football alumni has gathered annually for over 50 years.
The family requests donations to the following link, in memory of Ric, which will go directly to the Gee-Gees football team’s operational fund. Thank you. https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/da405b8a-c1c9-4a78-bd7e-fd27983cad25
