Obituary of Marian Constantin Buzdugan
It is with deep sorrow and immense love that we mourn the passing of Marian Constantin Buzdugan, on Monday June 19, 2023, at St Vincent’s Hospital in Ottawa, after a lengthy, unrelenting and courageous battle with ALS.
Marian is survived by his wife Darclée and his daughter Sara. He is predeceased by his father Constantin, mother Maria, and brother Stefan. He will be greatly missed by his aunt Valerica, cousins Simona, Florian and Bogdan. and by so many friends whom he met on his life’s journey, and who stood by his side throughout the challenges of the past several years.
Marian was born on September 12, 1967, in Timisoara, Romania. He graduated from the University of Timisoara in 1992 with a degree in Computer Engineering. He was always eager to learn and ready to try something new. While studying and working full time, he also began training in rock-climbing.
Marian immigrated to Canada and settled in Ottawa in 1995 and pursued a master’s degree in electrical engineering at the University of Ottawa where he worked briefly as a research and teaching assistant for 2 years. He went on to have a successful career in high tech, at Nortel, Maple Software, Ubiquity, RIM, and most recently at Nokia as a software architect. Marian loved working with people, finding solutions to any problem, and sharing his knowledge and experience unreservedly.
Marian was an avid sportsman and nature enthusiast. He loved traveling, climbing and mountaineering, always exploring new places and seeking the next great adventure. He liked playing team sports, soccer, badminton, karate. From hiking and skiing to canoe camping, or scuba diving, any sport brought him great joy. [Marinica or “Bicsul”, as friends called him, was much loved in the sports community].
Marian also loved to laugh and make others laugh. With his inexhaustible source of jokes, and wicked sense of humor, he was the life of the party wherever he went!
He also loved to watch movies and talk about them with friends. He was a true IMDb encyclopedia, and he delighted in his uncanny ability to always choose the perfect titles to suit everyone’s taste.
To Marian, with love, we dedicate these lyrics from Monty Python’s Life of Brian – Always Look on the light side of life
For life is quite absurd
And death’s the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin,
Give the audience a grin.
Enjoy it, its your last chance anyhow.
So always look on the bright side of death
A just before you draw your terminal breath
Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke, its true.
You’ll see, its all a show!
Keep ‘em laughin’ as you go!
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And always look on the light side of life...
We will never forget his spirit and his zest for life, but also his grace while enduring a cruel fate.
A Celebration of life and a Memorial service was held for Marian on Monday, June 26, 2023.
