Obituary of Rupa Menon
Rupa Narayani Menon, passed away peacefully on 12 March 2023. She was surrounded by her closest family and loved ones and spent her final hours listening to their stories and voices. She lived an incredible 65 years.
She was super mom to Kāvya and Eashan, Nonna Ru to Gabriele, loving daughter to Raji and Balan, adoring big sister and friend and counsel to so many.
Rupa was the connective tissue that brought people together, the eyes and ears that always made people feel seen and heard, the brain that remembered every birthday and special occasion, and the heart that always poured from an overflowing cup of unconditional love.
She showed us that one can be passionate (about causes), loyal (to family and friends), resilient (in the face of obstacles), and principled (in beliefs, guided by faith).
Her last week couldn’t have been more perfect. She spent it celebrating her grandson’s first birthday, spoiling him with gifts, baking his birthday cake with him and having laughter filled lunches and dinners with close family and friends.
Her legacy will be for us to live life to the fullest, face challenges head on and never cede to things that take away from family, friendships, good memories and leaving a footprint that adds value to the world.
We are devastated by her loss which will be felt far and wide by many.
She was predeceased by her father, N.P Balakrishnan, her darling brother Ravi, and her husband Raman. She is survived by her children Kāvya and Eashan, her grandson Gabriele, her mother Raji, her siblings, nephews, nieces and grand niece .
In accordance with the family’s wishes, a small Private Ceremony and Cremation will be held in Ottawa this week and a Celebration of Rupa’s Life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lupus Foundation of Canada , the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or to The Kidney Foundation
