What a beautiful beautiful farewell you all have given her, Puppi.
She was fortunate and blessed to have u guys as her family as much as u guys were fortunate have her in ur family. May the Universe be with u all at this challenging time.
The Ottawa river is her final journey in whose waters she has blended joyously.
But then,
Rupa was ever like a river herself.
Bubbling,
laughing,
splashing her goodness onto whoever had the good fortune to meet her flowing energy, head on.
Like a river,
she moved thro life relentlessly,
forward,
Overcoming rocklike obstacles on her path.
Never looking back, never going backwards.
Does any river ever flow backwards?
How could she,
being a river of love herself,
Not touch lonely hearts as she moved?
Or,
not quench the thirst of those who thirsted for a genuine smile ?
Or
Not feed the hunger
Of those who hungered for affection?
Or
Not nourish the weak hearted with words of strength?
Like a river she flowed gently,
generously, yet purposefully.
She was in a hurry,
To fulfil her destiny,
But she took her time too,
To spread cheer ,
wise counsel and affection.
Now, she flows once more,
In the lap of Grace,
To the Ocean whose oceanic qualities she carried thro life.
Farewell Rupa,
Yet it can never be a farewell, but u know that,
Your energy ,
Your spirit,
Your beauty,
Your smile,
For sure lives on
In every heart u touched,
In every home u visited,
In every birthday that u remembered, and made more special.
Ur life was a beautiful journey which u completed with strength, integrity, love and compassion.
Thank you Rupa ,
U have left ur lasting fragrance for us to grow on.
Any soul that was lost, was found,
Because u cared to stop and look for it.
May u flow ever gently and surely,
Towards the Ocean, from whose endless bounty u took birth,
And whose qualities of largesse and love u carried in ur soul.

I remember Rupa’s smile and laugh. They never failed to bring a smile to my face when I was a young boy. I remember when I was 12 years of age, Rupa decided to test her hair threading skills on my arm! Like a typical young man, I cowered and gave up because it was too much discomfort. It is difficult to accept that Rupa has left us for a heavenly dwelling place. May God bless her family with strength and healing to deal with this painful loss.

I am writing this while my heart is bleeding after losing my friend Rupa. She fought a brave and strong battle for many years with her disease. Rupa was a beautiful woman inside and out. Raising two kids as a single mother is not easy but she did it. I remember how hard she worked to make sure she took care of her family. Rupa was a great example for all single mothers and also for all women coming from other countries as immigrants. She was also a great friend and was always there for me whenever I needed to talk to someone. Rupa always wished me a happy Iranian New Year, and it hurts me knowing that this will be the first time she is not around during that New Year's celebration which is coming up shortly. I miss her so much.

Rupa stood out and apart in a room full of people - that's what I thought when we first became classmates in Mount Carmel College, and this impression only got strengthened in the years that followed. I once wrote a short piece on her stained glass work for Inside Outside and was amazed, as always, at her commitment to beauty and perfection. We were in touch sporadically, but every time, she reached out with the warmth and affection that everyone speaks about, asking about people and events in Bangalore. Most recently, we were to have done a Zoom call with other friends and I regret that we didn't do it. Rupa shared pictures of Gabrielle and you can see her pure delight in all of them. She went away too soon and all of us who knew her will have an ache and a spot in our hearts for her. My most sincere sympathy and condolences to the family.

Our sincere condolences on the loss of this beautiful woman - beautiful in soul and spirit. I knew Roopa from the time she was a girl, my sister Amala's dear friend and constant companion. I remember her growing into a beautiful teenager and young women, her beauty enhanced by her lovely smile and her cheerful, loving nature. She met with many trials in her life, and overcame them without bitterness or anger to mar her essential nature. I feel sad that we didn't manage to connect when I visited Canada in 2012.
May she rest in eternal peace and may her children and grandchildren carry forward her legacy of love and care.

Dear, dear Rupa! You will be so missed! I can’t believe we won’t be able to call each other, have our long whatapp chats… I can’t believe you aren’t with us anymore…
The memory of you carrying Eashan & bringing little Kavya to FAPS while I brought little Prahlad & Siddharth, still so clear in my mind! Our friendship grew from that time on!
The beautiful time I had when I travelled to Ottawa to spend a few days with you is a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life… you took such good care of me…you cared!
The bond you had with my mom was something so wonderful… it was two souls bonding with an intensity far beyond what I could understand then! & you couldn’t believe her name was also Rajeswari…like your mom’s…
I am feeling so numb, unable to do much… loosing you is so hard to take, dear Rupa!
We shared so much… even our battles with our respective auto immune disorders…
I love you Rupa, will miss you dearly…

I had not seen, met or been in contact with Rupa in over 4 decades. The last time we had met was probably in the 80's!. Her mother was a dear friend of my mother. Rupa contacted me when she heard of my serious motorcycle accident that nearly took my life in 2018. All through my recovery she stayed in touch and offered support and advice on centers for treatment of my injuries. I was not aware she was unwell and she never mentioned it. I was shocked to hear she had passed. My deepest condolences to her loved ones.
See you on the other side Rupa.

The fact that you did a long journey with friends on a terrain that is challenging to any rider really tells me much about the kind of person you are. Amazing achievement. Congratulations. I met Rupa in 1971 when I was teaching at Bishop Cotton’s Girls’ School. I remember that I used to walk down Hayes Road those days and often stopped by her house and chatted with her and Aunty Rajee. Although I Ieft Bangalore in 1974, I was very touched and honoured that she kept in touch with me all these years and when I moved to Canada it was great to meet her now and then and catch up. Rupa and I became friends over the years, and we sort of weaved in and out of each other’s lives as friends often do and I was so happy to be invited to various lunches, dinners and to Aunty Rajee’s 80th birthday.
A mutual friend and said Rupa was ‘stoic and fearless’. Yes, she was! She faced life’s trials and tribulations head on. From my conversations with her, I know that she was a brave and indefatigable patient. She lived life to the fullest till the end. I’m so happy she spent some joyful days with her family and especially her beautiful grandson, Gabriel.
Rupa was a beautiful person. Her elegance, poise and charm were so evident in the way she spoke and interacted with everyone including my family and with former Cottonians. They all have the kindest things to say about her.
I found it quite difficult to write these words about Rupa’s passing... the death of one of my former students is a reminder us that things don’t always happen in the order they are supposed to - her life was cut short too suddenly, but I am certain her beautiful impact will be remembered for years.
Goodbye my dear beautiful Rupa. Thank you for staying connected with me. I will miss you.
Dear Aunty Rajee, Padma, Eshan and Kavya and Kitchu, I’m sending you all lots of love and strength. I am thinking of all of you.

Rupa and my friendship spanned 55 years. I still remember how we first met when we were 10 years old. She had just moved to Bangalore, and I was walking by her house on Hayes Road and saw her sitting on the wall swinging her legs. We became friends and would spend time hopefully digging for buried treasure in our backyards. Rupa was my cool, beautiful, sporty friend all through school when I was her bespectacled, nerdy classmate. Our lives diverged when I went away to college, but we always met every time I visited Bangalore, and could effortlessly resume the same old intimacy. We remained friends through life’s later troubles, joys, challenges, and responsibilities – husbands and raising our children, running households, and pursuing careers. Sadly, we did not see each other in person again once Rupa left for Canada and I was working in different parts of the world, but we stayed in touch and could always talk about anything and everything with each other.
I will always be grateful for how Rupa supported me with wise, non-judgmental counsel through my difficult times, and her joy at my later accomplishments. I will always hold close to my heart the memory of her love, radiant smile, and infectious giggle.
I was planning to visit Rupa in June… perhaps in another life our souls will be together again.

Dear Rupa,
The immeasurable kindness that extended to me through the years will forever serve as a guiding light as I walk further into life. You always reached out, gave me patient counsel and helped me understand the trials and tribulations of life - and how it could be dealt with. I will miss the unfailing checking-in, that second nature to connect people (you sparkled when you spoke about your friends and who would be the right people to connect across), and the assurances that things would be ok. You were right… they all eventually did turn out ok.
Our last conversation after my birthday will forever be etched in my mind - with that bubbling excitement that you would soon see your grandson (you laughed when I said that you sounded like a teenager going to their first concert), you fretted that you would be reprimanded for pampering him too much (I’m sure you still went ahead and pampered away), and of course, stratagems to tackle my geriatric father’s nonplussed attitude towards taking care of himself.
My favourite poem has a line that I often think about. Ulysees, while exploring the untravelled world quips, “I am a part of all that I have met”. And Rupa, there’s a little bit of you in all of us.
You made this world a better place, and it’s up to us to keep it that way.
In celebration of you,
Ashwin

How do I say goodbye, Rupa, when I still can't wrap my head around the fact that you are no longer on Earth with us?
I'll miss our telethons across continents and countries. Our last communication was as recently as on Wednesday, the 8th of March, when you sent me a lovely picture of Kavya, Giuseppe and beautiful Gabriele, and again on Thursday. You were so happy that they had chosen to celebrate cherubic Gabriele's first birthday with you and Eashan. They were your world. What a blessing to spend your last days on Earth surrounded by love in its purest form!
You had an amazing memory and were sentimental about the little things, often talking about having saved the funny little poem I'd written about you while we were in college studying Psychology, Economics and English together. You visited our home in Mangalore eons ago and revisited it with the names and memories of my parents and all my five siblings so often thereafter. Relationships mattered to you.
I thank you for your steadfast friendship, your good counsel when I needed it, for connecting me to Mount Carmelites in Houston when I moved there. You reached out and touched all, selfless with introductions and networks that would benefit another.
Today, I reach out, in love, thought and prayer, to dearest spirited Kavya and her beautiful little family, to vulnerable sensitive Eashan, to your grieving Mother (I can't even begin to imagine how painful it must be losing two offspring in one's lifetime), to your sister, Kichu, who you were so fond of.
May angels wing you to sweet painless peace, dearest Rupa. You will be missed.

I met Rupa in 1969. We became very good friends and remained so through all these years (with a small gap of about 15 years) She was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. Never has a negative thing to say about anyone. Through all the ups and downs of her life she was brave and positive and always looking forward. I spoke to her at least once every 2 week for the past 10 years and even though her body was being pummeled by problems she always found ways to stay positive.
She always remembered birthdays and Anniversaries. She even remembered my mother's birthday and wished me on that day even though my mother has passed for over 6 years. Her kindness was universal. Everyone I know who knows her never has nothing but good things to say about her.
Smart, Pretty, composed, elegant, thoughtful, kind, brave are just a few of the qualities she possessed.
Last Saturday when her son Eshan called from her phone to tell me sad news it was a shock. I am happy I got to speak into her ear one last time. It was the saddest longest goodbye I have ever made. Now she is at peace. Her physical body may not be here but my good friend RUPA MENON the little girl from Hayes road will always live in my heart.
Goodbye my dear friend. We who are still on this earth who knew you mourn your passing.
To Aunty Raji, Puppy, Eshan and Kavya and Kitchu who knew as a little baby in Bangalore my heart weeps with all of you. She will always be in our hearts.

Dearest Rupa,
I will miss you, my friend. We had such wonderful conversations over the phone in the last few years, catching up on news of old friends and classmates, sharing our own experiences, book, movie and TV show recommendations, family dramas and more. Your dialysis days were Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so I called on Tuesdays or Thursdays, usually on my way to or from work. I knew you were not in the best health, so I worried each time I called, wondering if you would sound ill or weak. Remarkably, you never did, not even just a couple of weeks ago. You always sounded strong and I could hear the warmth in your smile. I wanted to know how you were, but you always turned the table back to me, wanting to know what was new with me, my husband, my kids. It's not as if you were trying to hide anything - you were always honest about what was going on with your health - but not once did you complain or dwell on your pain or diagnoses. The grace with which you handled all your setbacks and challenges will always be an inspiration to me. I will miss you, my friend. Love, Asha

Puppy,
This is a tribute / share a memory - for dearest Rupa. Pls include it in the Obituary link u have shared? I’m unable to do it myself .
Rupa -
On the canvas of my life of 65 years , around my 22nd year, a bright golden hue appeared . It grew steadily larger and brighter over the years . Sometimes other hues splashed over it, but this golden hue shone thro nevertheless. It reappeared now and again , often , to share its love, counsel, compassion, joy, vivacious ness, style, strength , laughter and so much more, adding a lustre that the other hues on my canvas, simply could not match.
This golden hue stayed constant, strong and beautiful , flowing gently into my life , over the last 45 years!!
Just three weeks ago it appeared again, all the way from Ottawa to Bangalore, to share its warmth & love with me one last time - before it merged forever into the Light from whence it came.
This golden hue is Rupa - the light that lit up many dark corners of many hearts.
One meeting with Rupa was enough to know kindness, fun, love and strength .
Rupa- you are not easy to put into words-
You are even more difficult to forget.
I m guessing , you are needed elsewhere now, and we need to let u go - as cheerfully and gracefully as can be managed in the sorrow that fills us.
Thank you for choosing to flow through our lives Rupa - and for leaving behind your unmistakable glow in our hearts.
