After a long and difficult journey with Cancer, John passed away peacefully, with family, at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital, on the morning of April 11, 2022.
Beloved husband of Susan (nee Hawke). Together, the two enjoyed love and friendship for 52 years. Proud father of son Chad (Cindy) and daughter Selene (Ken). Most of all, John cherished his grandchildren. He treasured his time with Jakob, Madeline, Alex, Hannah, Norah, Keira, Kayla and Ryan. John’s spirit will live on through the eyes of his grandkids.
John was born in Toronto. He was raised on a small farm in the Hockley Valley, with his six siblings -- Violet, Donald, Elizabeth, Marlene, Fred (Hemangini), Marjorie (Nick).
John was a retired Accountant. He worked for the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) as their Head Accountant for 22 years before retiring.
John was an avid soccer fan. As a fan, he was thrilled to be able to watch the Canadian Men’s soccer team achieve World Cup status. He proudly coached or participated in the Goulbourn United and Greyhound Soccer club for over 10 years.
The family would like to thank the dedicated Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the Palliative Care team at Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital. Their kindness and compassion as John travelled the last part of his journey on earth was heartwarming. Our family is in awe of all that they do.
John will be deeply missed. His memory will forever be held by those who love him.
The Spence family will celebrate John’s life with a private family graveside gathering.
