Susan Short

Obituary of Susan Elizabeth Short

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Susan Elizabeth Short has passed away on March 31, 2022 in her 64th year. Susan gallantly and courageously battled numerous illnesses over the course of her all-too-short life. The resilience she showed during these times made her an inspiration to those who knew her.

Born in Montreal on September 30th 1957, the family moved to Ottawa in the early 1960s. Susan grew up in the Carlington Park area and attended Fisher Park High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in History at Carleton University.

Susan’s professional expertise was in the field of finance. She worked for many years in the offices at Dominion Grocery Stores. Eventually, she joined the National Gallery of Canada in the accounting department where she stayed for more than 25 years.

Susan was very creative, thoughtful, and a lover of animals, including birds and her beloved late poodle Coconut. She was also the definitive example of someone who had the courage of her convictions – she was passionate about the issues that she believed in.

Susan will be missed by many friends and relatives who loved her dearly.

Susan is predeceased by her mother Norma Angela Short (2009) and her father Douglas James Short (2019). She is survived by her younger brother James Andrew Short, her nieces Renelle Short and Laura Short, several very dear friends and cousins from across North America.

Special thanks to the Ottawa Heart Institute and the Ottawa Hospital for providing her with such great care in her final days.  We are also extraordinarily grateful to the remarkable staff at the Civic Kidney and Dialysis Clinic who Susan spoke fondly of and who also took such great care of her over the years.

A ceremony will be held to celebrate Susan's life on Monday April 18, 2022 at 11 am at Pinecrest Remembrance Services located at 2500 Baseline Road.
