Obituary of Stephen Kennedy Lagroix

It is with deep sorrow we say goodbye our beloved Stephen Kennedy LaGroix, 59. Stephen passed away on December 27, 2024, at the Ottawa Civic Hospital.

A truly special son, brother, father and friend who will be greatly missed. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. Stephen may be gone to Heaven, but his memory will stay alive in the hearts of all who knew him.

Born to Vincent and Teresa LaGroix (nee: Kennedy) on October 20, 1965; the baby of the family, Stephen was the youngest of 7 children.
Stephen was known for his magnetic smile that could light up any room and his remarkable ability to bring joy and laughter to everyone he met.

Stephen was a fantastic swimmer, he would tell stories about swimming in the Ottawa River and his daughter fondly remembers their trips to Brittania beach where he would swim around with her for hours. Stephen was also quite a talented hockey player in his youth, his determination and grit were as evident on the ice as they were in his career as a plumber.

Beyond his work, he was a pillar of the community, beloved by neighbors and friends for his kindness and generosity. In March 1988, Stephen welcomed his pride and joy, Amber to the world. Stephen was more than just a father to Amber; he was a hero and a source of inspiration. His daughter will forever cherish his humor, strength, and the countless ways he brightened her life. In his passing, the outpouring of love from the community speaks volumes about the impact he had on so many lives. Stephen is now reunited with his parents Vincent LaGroix, Teresa LaGroix (Kennedy) and his brother Brian in heaven. He is survived by his beloved daughter Amber, grandchildren Koda and Ryleigh, his siblings Dan (Eileen), Patty MacDonald (Harold), Sheila and Sharon, his cousin, and best friend Pat aka "Spunky" and many more extended family, friends and staff at Somerset West Community Health Centre who will treasure his memory.

A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held at a later date. A notice will be in sent out, the family invites all who knew and loved him to come together to honor a truly remarkable man.

Stephen’s laughter, warmth, kindness, strength and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, his daughter asks that donations be made in his memory to Somerset West Community Health Centre, where he was fondly referred to as "the mayor".

As my dad jokingly rapped along with Eminem, "cause we need a little controversy, cause it feels so empty without Steve"
It really does feel empty without you, but I'll see you there.
