Obituary of Royston (Roy) Millen
The Millen family are sad to announce that our beloved Dad passed away on December 2 at the age of 92. He led a full and honourable life as a son, husband, father and grandfather. Born in Kent, England, Roy was the child of the late Ernest (Pop) & Hilda Millen (née Lee), and stepson of the late Amelia (Milly) Millen. Roy was the younger brother of the late Ian Millen (late Faith) of Tasmania. He was predeceased by his best friend and wife of 64 years, Gerry (née Swiggs). Roy will be remembered by sons Richard (Cheryl Peever) & Andy (Helen), and grandchildren Matt, Chris, Greg & Amy. He will also be fondly appreciated by extended family in Barbados, Tasmania, Great Britain and Canada.
Our family immigrated to Canada in 1966 and immersed ourselves in our new country. Roy had a long and distinguished career as an electrical engineer. Apart from his work, his passions included gardening, running marathons, bird watching, and all things related to nature. He spent over 40 years volunteering his time and skills, to ensure that birds and deer were fed throughout winters on the Jack Pine Trail.
He was a great role model of strength, intelligence, wit, resourcefulness and decency, and will additionally be remembered as a helpful and respected neighbour in his local community of Manordale (Nepean).
We will miss you Dad and are comforted in our belief that you and Mum are together again.
Rest In Peace.
A private inurnment will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery. A celebration of Roy’s life will be held early in the new year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Ottawa Field Naturalists’ Club.
