It is with sincere sadness that I just learned of Shirley’s passing today. She was a great friend and co worker as she and I developed the nursing position at Workers Compensation Board (WCB), subsequently named Workplace Safety insurance Board (WSIB). It was thanks to her that this nursing position eventually led to the hiring of 20+ nurses, here in Ottawa, a position that continues to flourish. We had many laughs over coffee every morning for over ten years. She always was great at a quick retort, always happy to keep me informed of her family and what and where were the grandchildren. Norway Bay was her retreat where she continued to exercise her nursing skills on her retirement. MAY SHE REST IN PEACE

Dear Judy, Sandra, Diana and Marjorie
Your Mom was a special friend to me and to Eric and a continuing source of strength and comfort after his death many years ago. As everyone who spent time with her knows, Shirley had a particular combination of kindness, wisdom, empathy and sense of fun. She was so generous in sharing those qualities and you always felt the better for it. And to think that we met because of a Miniature Schnauzer puppy. Such a happy circumstance. My sincere condolences to you and your families. She loved and was so proud of you all. I am blessed to have known her and will always cherish my memories of her.

Sincere sympathy to you all on the passing of your dear mother & grandmother.
Shirley was my late mother, Ruth's cousin and I remember how mom enjoyed visits with her at church or Hobbs cousin gatherings the past few decades.
May your memories bring you all comfort at this difficult time.

I will always cherish my memories of Shirley. She was a master story teller and consummate hostess. I would often find myself planning a "short stop" to say hi to Shirley during my walks on Strathcona in the Bay only to emerge from conversation with Shirley an hour or two later! A pillar of the Norway bay community and above all a kind and wonderful person, Big hugs to the entire family. Chris Kent

Please accept our sincere condolences on Shirley's passing. We visited her at Norway Bay, years ago, and shared some fun family memories. Shirley's father, Uncle Bud, was one of my father's (Mervin Hobbs) brothers. Shirley was a treasure of family history and we enjoyed her many stories.
Sincerely,
Andy and Lynn Hobbs

Mom, you were my constant and loving supportive best friend. I will be forever grateful for the love and friendship we had. I wish we could have one more giggle and laugh together, but I know you had to go and take care of Tommy and Nana, Grampa and Bordie. My life will be different without you in it, but I am thankful for the many memories I will hold forever in my heart. Thank you for being the BEST Mom to me and all of us. Love you always and forever Mom....xoxo DeDe

Judy, Sandy, DeDe & Momo:
I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved mom. Shirley was one in a million - beautiful, kind, funny, wise, and a blessing to have in our lives. Shirley was like a second mom to me. The laughs we shared, the words of wisdom she provided at times when I needed my mom the most, the support she gave me when I started my new business venture in Shawville, the meals she hosted for "her girls", so she could share the stories of the fun she had with my parents and the others in her group - all this will leave a huge void in our lives. I am grateful for the years we had, I am sad they are over, and I hope that through you girls, her memory will live on forever. I love you and will miss you Shirley.
