Obituary of Kenneth Brodersen
Kenneth Terkild Brodersen, 85, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully at the Ruddy-Shenkman Centre in Kanata, after a brief illness.
Ken was the youngest child of Terkild Brodersen and Hertha Brodersen (nee Berteit), born in Saint John, New Brunswick. Husband to Elizabeth Jean Brodersen (nee Lounder). Sibling to Katherine Valbourg (Val), Edith, and Thorvald. Father to Brian (Cathy), Brenda (Tim) and Scott (Christine). Grandfather to Greg, Taylor, Cassandra, Sam, Josh, Decklyn and Jayden. Great-grandfather to Scarlett. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Ken grew up in Saint John and studied Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. After marrying Elizabeth in 1964, and adding son Brian to the family, the trio made the long drive to Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario, where Ken completed his PhD in Environmental Engineering. Daughter Brenda was born in Kitchener, and, upon Ken's graduation, the growing family moved to Ottawa, where Scott was born. Ken enjoyed a successful lifelong career with the federal government, working at the departments of Environment Canada, Fisheries and Oceans, and Public Works.
Ken had a long, happy life surrounded by his family. He and Liz traveled extensively during their retirement years and enjoyed many outdoor activities together.
Ken was always kind, always compassionate, always practical, and always completely devoted to his family, the centre of his life. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Salvation Army. Ken was always grateful for the care he received from Sally Anne when, as a young man, he was admitted to its sanatorium with tuberculosis.
A funeral will be held on Monday, October 7, at Cole Funeral Services, Highland Park Cemetery 2037 McGee Side Road, Carp, ON. Private family interment will take place at 11:30 am. Friends are invited to a Celebration of life Reception from 12:30pm to 3:00pm
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at hospice where he spent his final days. Donations to the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice and The Salvation Army would be gratefully appreciated as well.
