Obituary of Anita Jeans

Anita Myra (née Best) Jeans

Peacefully at The Stonebridge Manor, Anita passed away on July 31, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Al (Bill) Jeans for 43 years. Devoted and loving mother of Kenneth, Uldine, Katherine, Stanley, Peter (Dianna Elliott), and David. Proud Nanny of Crystal, Jessica, Nathan, Ryan, Ashley (Greg), Billy (Samantha), Ivy, Nicholas (Brittany), Nolan, and Chayse. Loving Great Nanny of Adrianna, Katelynn, Emma, Jackson, and Walter. Daughter of the late Mary Best and Benjamin Best (St. John’s, Newfoundland). Sister of the late Helen, Lorraine, Minnie, Milly, William and Jack.  Sweet Aunt of her many nieces and nephews.

Anita was a loving stay-at-home wife and an at-home babysitter for others. She took great pride in being from Newfoundland and was famous for her Newfie Christmas dinners. Her home in Bells Corners always had an open seat at the dinner table for just one more, no matter how many others she was joyfully hosting. Once her six children were raised, she started working in catering and as a cook for BNR, CJOH, Ned Kelly’s, the Museum of Nature, and CDC. She was active with her Salvation Army Church in Bells Corners.

She loved her “bit” of cottage life at Hay Shores, Mississippi Lake, where she made lifelong friends for over 55 years. Anita had a wonderful Newfie sense of humour, especially playing her favourite card game Skip-Bo, with her dog Dexter beside her all the time.

As her dementia increased and other health issues arose, she made friends at the Courtyard in Kanata and then Stonebridge Manor in Carleton Place, where she lit up the room. We are forever grateful to Dr. Buckley and the staff at the Stonebridge Manor who made her final days of palliative care loving and compassionate, just like their own Mom.

A Salvation Army graveside service, followed by a celebration of life, will be held on Friday, August 9th, from 1-4 pm at Highland Park, 2037 McGee Side Road, Carp, ON K0A 1L0.

A memorial donation to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County would be appreciated.
