Obituary of Keith Featherston
We said goodbye to Keith who passed peacefully on July 17, 2024, at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family. He was beloved by his late wife, Audrey Featherston for 70 years, as well as being the adored Father to Steven (Helen ), Jeffrey (Gail), and Nancy (Terry (deceased). An extremely proud Grandfather to Ben (Andrea Plante), Thomas (Heather Rose), Katherine, Scott (Hayley Heaslip), Matthew, Shayne, Erika (Frank Visneskie), Brett and a great Grandpa (GGpa) to Amelia, Lea, Reese and Cole, Maeve, Ollie, Myla and Kobie. He is predeceased by his parents Elmer Featherston and Isabel Hobbs.
He was born and raised in Munster, Ontario on the family farm on 5th line of which he was very proud His working career started as a apolster’s apprentice with his uncle Clifford Featherston and then moved to Bell Canada in 1950 as a splicer in Montreal. He proudly worked his way up to where he reached 2nd level management in the Traffic department until his retirement in 1990.
Both Keith and Audrey had a love for the Rideau Lakes and had their first cottage Buena Vista, near Portland, Ontario. He and Audrey found a property on Adam Lake and in 1969 cleared the land to where Keith’s skill at carpentry were instrumental in the building of a small dwelling which now is a spacious place to which we refer to as the Featherston Family Lakehouse. He was an excellent environmental steward of Adam Lake, through his involvement with local Lake Associations.
Keith and Audrey raised their family in Ottawa and made many friendships both on Broadhead and Whitmore Avenue. Those friendships endured the test of time even after they made a permanent move to the lake.
Keith was an avid hunter, fisherman, woodworker, Euchre player and golfer. Most activities ended with a stiff rum and coke or a cold beer.
Their love of travel took them to many places, starting as snowbirds in Texas, then Florida and in later years international travel to destinations which included Australia New Zealand and England. Cruising was definitely a favorite for both when they went to the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas, as well as in the Caribbean.
Friends and Family can pay their respects at Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road on Monday, July 22nd from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Service will follow from 11:00 to 12:00pm. A reception will be held after the service at Cole’s.
Many thanks to the wonderful team at Lanark Lifestyles for their caring and compassion. They made Keith feel a part of their family, even though his time there was short. Thanks also to Dr. Drummond for his many years of care and to Dr. Simpson for his unwavering support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Perth and Smith Falls District Hospital Foundation.
