Obituary of James Edward Megill
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our father who died peacefully at home at the Redwoods Retirement Residence on June 22, 2024. Born in Newmarket on July 2, 1930, Ed was raised in Parry Sound Ontario where he met his wife, Edna, who predeceased him in May 2018.
Ed is survived by his children, Karen (Ken), Joan, Gary (Dolores), Laurie (Larry) and Edward as well as 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He also has a twin sister Eileen who resides in Calgary.
Ed worked for Bell Canada for over 42 years. He started as a lineman and eventually moved into engineering. Ed worked in the Bell offices in Sudbury, North Bay and finally in Kingston Ontario where he subsequently retired in 1990. Ed had a passion for golfing, boating, his family and picnics.
Settling at the Redwoods following his wife’s passing in 2018 introduced him to another community of friends. There he met Gwen who introduced him to all the social activities offered by the Redwoods. She was a special friend and he spent many hours with her watching old movies and enjoying special events. In particular, he loved the music and cocktail events. He had an amazing time exploring the neighbourhood in his wheelchair, fondly called the bat-mobile.
A celebration of life will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa Ontario on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024. Service at 1:00 pm followed by a light lunch and remembrances.
