Obituary of Shirley Leanna McKay (nee Myers)
We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Shirley McKay on Monday June 10th surrounded by her loving children. Born October 13, 1930 in Finch, Shirley was the daughter of Herbert (Bert) and Mary (Shaver) Myers, the eldest of three, Faye Pollitt (deceased) and Desta Gibbons. She was married 62 years to the love of her life, best friend, and dance partner, Harold, who passed away July 2014. She will be forever missed by her children David (Vicki), Scott (DJ), and Janet Saunders (Brian). Nanny to Matthew (Ali), Jeffrey (Amy), Michael Saunders, Brianna Saunders (Leo), Gillian McDonald, and great grandson Lawson.
She was a life long member, and elder of Erskine Presbyterian Church and more recently Westminster. Her life was one of giving and caring for her family, her church, and community, volunteering with a number of charitable organizations, including 24 years at the Heart Institute. Shirley was strong spirited, and determined, with a clear vision how life should be. Mother, and our family, are forever indebted to the kindness and care of Roula Nihme, Valeria, Jannah, and Assurance Home Care for enabling mother to remain living independently at home.
Visitation will be held at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, on Wednesday June 12, 2024 from 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Pinecrest Chapel on Thursday June 13, 2024, at 11am. A Private Burial will be held at the Huntley Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or Westminster Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
