Obituary of Ruth Marie Bretzlaff
It is with great sadness that we share the news of our beloved mother's peaceful passing in her 98th year, on May 27th, 2024 at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus. Ruth was predeceased by her husband and love of her life George Carl Bretzlaff and will be forever in the hearts of her three children, Brian (Arlene), Bruce (Rocio) and Colleen (Peter Marshall), her grandchildren, Philip (Danika), Paul (Sarah), David (Emily), Carla (Patrick), Alex (Tiarra) and Bryan (Kathy) and great-grandchildren William, Ashleigh, Henry, Jordan, Victoria and Arturo, who all knew her as Granny.
Ruth was born on a farm in Thorne Township, Quebec, the second and youngest daughter of the late William Thoms and Marie Yach. She was predeceased by her sister Vera Tubman. Ruth grew up in the Pontiac and married George in 1947 and then moved with her young family to Ottawa in 1963 where she worked for Sears at Carlingwood for 28 years. Ruth was a keen bowler, card player, x-country skier, sewer, baker and loved to listen and dance to fiddle music. Ruth was a strong but gentle, loving woman with a good sense of humour and was very devoted to her growing family. Throughout her life she had an incredible ability to share memories and facts from years past. She was proud to be a member of All Saint Lutheran Church in Ottawa for the past 60 years and to be part of the Caring Spirits Bible Study Group.
Ruth will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at Pinecrest Cemetery on Wed. June 5th from 1 p.m. until the service in the chapel at 2 p.m. officiated by Pastor Doug Kranz. Interment and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ottawa Heart Institute or St. John's Lutheran Church, Ladysmith, Quebec.
