Obituary of Irene Gyorffy

Irene Gyorffy (née Horvath, predeceased by her husband, Louis Gyorffy, and daughter, Marian Kovacs-Paul (Henry), passed suddenly on April 19, 2024 at the Ottawa Heart Institute with her daughters by her side. Irene leaves behind daughters Irene Biro (Stephen), Judy Hodgins (Jeffrey), Christine Kovacs (Sean Narbonne), stepson Steve Gyoerffy, and grandchildren Mitchell Paul (Lauren), Erika Paul (Trahern Haskell), Andrew and James Biro (Roxanna), Justin (Christiana Ouellette) and Jordan Hodgins, Mila and Mika Gyoerffy, as well as great-grandchildren; Londyn and Melina Biro. Irene was born in Veszprémvarsány, Hungary and has made Canada her home since 1958. She was an active member of the Ottawa Hungarian Community Centre, where she volunteered with her husband Louis, president, for over 20 years. Irene also leaves behind family and friends in Hungary.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 16, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. at Cole Funeral Services, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, Ontario. A memorial will take place at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ottawa Heart and Stroke Foundation on Irene’s behalf.
