Obituary of Shirley Elaine Cole (nee Armstrong)
Re-united again with her beloved husband (late) Bob of 68 years after 19 days apart, Shirley passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the age of 90.
Predeceased by her parents Charles Armstrong and Ada Armstrong (nee Boucher). Cherished sister of the late Gerald Armstrong “Scotty” (Elaine) and late Donald & Marnie Armstrong
She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews Janet Szula (nee Armstrong), Paul Armstrong (Penny), Peter Armstrong, Jane Hickman (Allan), John Armstrong (Sharon), Diana Payne (nee Cole), Joan McNeill (nee Cole), Scott Niblock (Lynn), extended family and many friends.
Shirley grew up in Westboro, and attended Nepean High School where she met Bob. Together they founded & operated Ottawa Awning and Canvas, and many other small businesses.
An active skier, curler and golfer at the Ottawa Hunt Club, Shirley also spent many years at their property in South March and summer home on the St Lawrence River. Shirley was known by all for her generosity and philanthropy.
A heart-felt thank you goes out to the staff on the 5th floor at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, and the Palliative Care unit at St Vincent Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 in the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road. In lieu of flowers donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
