Obituary of Eleanore Elaine Blackie
It is with great sadness that we share the news of our beloved mother’s peaceful passing. Eleanore was predeceased by her husband and love of her life, Bill Blackie, and will be forever in the hearts of her three children, Susan (Bernard), Bruce (Debbie) and Dennis (Karen), her grandchildren Marielle, Vanessa, Neil, Keith, Meghan and Hannah, her nine great-grandchildren as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Eleanore was predeceased by her parents Clarence Rosborough and Maisie Rosborough (nee Topping) and her siblings Gwen, Shirley, Anna, John and Bob with whom she had remained close through the years. As a young woman, she moved from her hometown of Smiths Falls to Ottawa where she enjoyed a career with Bell Canada before starting a family. Eleanore then turned her energy and talents to her home and family life. She had a great interest in sports and encouraged us all to discover sports, cheering us on along the way. Summertime meant hosting barbecues bringing cousins, aunts and uncles all together as one big family. Later Eleanore would become a proud and doting Granny adored by all her grandchildren. So many memories that will be cherished for many years to come.
Eleanore brought a strong mind and a big heart to every encounter. Her witty sense of humour and selfless generosity will be greatly missed by friends and family alike. She received everyone into her home with open arms and a good chin wag around the kitchen table. We shall miss her humour and her storytelling, her kindness and her smile, but most of all her unwavering love for us all.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In memoriam donations to the Ottawa Food Bank, The Ottawa Mission or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
