Obituary of George Albert Hanna
December 26, 1929 - January 24, 2024
George passed peacefully at Forest Hill Care Home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Born in Portage-du-Fort, Quebec, George was the beloved husband of Florence (Sawchuk), Father of Gail (Gerry Warner), Brian (Heather), Karen (Rick Harris) and Scott (Patricia). Adored Grandfather to Sarah, Samantha (Josh Bradley), John, Cameron, Adam, Dana, Lee, Dylan (YouKyung) and Mike (Maria), Adrian, and Brigitte. Cherished Great Grandfather to Quinton, Zachary, Danek, Dawson, and Braxton. George is predeceased by his parents Russell Hanna and Myrtle Norris and siblings Cecil, Eric, Norris, Keith, Bob, Ray, Verla, Melville and Freda. George and Florence met and married in Peace River, Alberta. George worked most of his career for the Federal Government and had postings in Iqaluit (Frobisher Bay) Nunavut, Field BC and Ottawa-Gatineau. A long-time resident of the Ottawa suburbs of Glen Cairn and Granite Court, George was involved with local Hockey, Scouts, Lions Club and the Holy Redeemer Church. George and Florence spent a great deal of time in their retirement years at their cottage on Patterson Lake in Lanark Highlands and moved to Timberwalk Retirement Residence in early 2022.
Special thanks to the staff at Forest Hill for their care in George’s final months. Friends may visit at the HIGHLAND PARK CEMETERY, 2037 MCGEE SIDE ROAD, CARP, ONTARIO on Friday, February 2nd from 4pm to 7pm. Funeral Service will be held in the HIGHLAND PARK Chapel on Saturday, February 3rd at 1pm, followed by interment and reception. For those who wish, donations to the The Dementia Society of Ottawa, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
