Obituary of William “Bill / The Willster” Thomas Cardo

March 4, 1938 - November 5, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Bill Cardo, announce his peaceful passing on November 5, 2023; at the ripe old age of 85, with his family by his side.

Predeceased by his wife, Lucy, and survived by previous wives Joan (Walters), and Gail (Denton). Bill was the son of the late Thomas and Kathleen (Rooney) Cardo. Predeceased by brother John and sister Pat, and survived by his brother Jim. Father to Janet (Donnelly), Dave (Vicky), and Tim,  He was also cherished grandfather to Kate (Matt), Connor, Thomas, Sam, and Olivia, and great-grandfather to Hudson and Harrison.

Upon completing high school, Bill started his surveying career with the MTO, working on a variety of projects, including the construction of the 401. During his 35-year career with the City of Ottawa, his employment included surveying, inspecting and in his later years as Project Manager for Sewer and Road construction. There are very few roads in Ottawa that Bill has not worked on!

Bill used his construction skills to build his family a four-season cottage on the Mississippi Lake – where he spent many a summer enjoying a cold beer on the dock with friends and family. Upon his retirement in May1995, Bill continued to enjoy many outdoor activities including downhill and cross-country skiing, and skating on the canal during the winter months, and spending any chance he had near water during summer months.  Bill also had many cherished memories spent with his cousins at the “Twin Elm” Rooney farm.

The family would like to extend the most sincerest of thanks to the staff at Extendicare Starwood, especially Bev, Joyce, and Kimmy for their empathy, kindness, love,on-going support and professional care of Bill in his final years and during his passing.

Family and friends are welcome to join a small funeral liturgy and inurnment on Tuesday, November 14 at 1:00pm at Pinecrest Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00pm at The Royal Canadian Legion (Bells Corners).
