Alison Ewing

Obituary of Alison Ewing

May 3, 1927- September 28, 2023

Alison was born in Kirkland Lake Ont. She was one of 5 children, second youngest. Her father owned the local hardware store, in which all of the children were expected to help out. She learned from her dad the value of a dollar and the importance of no waste and reuse……..example being those milk bags mom would rinse and use like the ziplock bags.  Mom had a use for everything without having to buy new. This served her well raising 3 young children on her own. She always had many stories of growing up in a small northern mining town and would tell them with pride and a smile.

She left Kirkland Lake along with her good friend Bettyann to stay in residence at Kingston General Hospital for their studies to graduate in 1950 as Registered Nurses. The shenanigans they got up to would bring tears of laughter when they would reminisce about it. Mom focused the majority of her nursing career working in nursing homes  and long term care working as Head Nurse ( as they used to be called) at the Perley Hospital when it was located by the canal. Her staff spoke highly of mom as their boss as she treated everyone with the utmost respect. She had many enjoyments that included cross country skiing, curling, playing bridge, travel and gardening.

These are the words from her grandchildren when they speak of grandma or nanny as she was affectionally called. They say she was kind, loving ,an inspiration, strong, nurturing and independent woman. She taught values on making hard decisions and how to be adaptable. She made sure the needs of others were cared for before her own. She was an avid animal lover - some might say whisperer. Her sense of humor and infectious laugh could get us all laughing.

She will be forever missed by her children Jay(Lori), Lorie(Gerry), Lea(Tim), her grandchildren Kira(Aitor), Keeley(Connor), Evan, Hollie and Nicholas, Great grandchildren Evelyn and Marcela. Her loss will be deeply felt by her remaining youngest sister Betty(Bob) and her nieces Debbi, Kerry and their families.  Her niece Kate will hold her memory close to her heart as mom always held Kate’s to hers.

In keeping with moms wishes no formal funeral service will be held.

We will be having a family and friends celebration of her life in the summer of 2024
