Dear Gerry and Joanne,
I recently learned of Matt's passing via my son, Michael (Spike).
I can't tell you how devastating the news is for me. Obviously I have wonderful fond memories of you and your son, beginning way back when he was just a wee minor novice goalie. I remember the first year of competitive hockey in particular, when nobody gave us a chance. We just had so much fun back then.
Please accept my deepest sympathy and condolences for your loss.

I had the pleasure of working with Matt at the Ottawa Hospital for a few years and remember him as a kind, funny, hard working, and dependable colleague - he was always willing to help out whenever and wherever needed. While it's been well over a decade since I last saw him, I'm nonetheless deeply saddened to hear of his passing.

I worked with Matt for over 15 years at the hospital. I absolutely loved him. He was always so funny, he made me laugh constantly and was just a good friend. He asked questions and made fun and had a smirk that always made me smile. I haven’t seen Matt in a few years but I can’t stop thinking about his friends that he worked with every day. Massimo, Rob, Alex and Carol and so so many more. He will be missed by so many. But please know how loved he was.

I was so sorry to hear about Matt’s passing. Matt was a gentle soul with an incredible sense of humour. I will never forget the time I was exhausted and walking through the halls of the Civic Hospital after my mother was hospitalized. He saw me from a distance and ran up to me and said “hey buddy, are you ok?” . I could see and feel the compassion in his eyes when he spoke to me. Matt was a truly magnanimous person. Rest easy Matt. My sincere condolences to Matt’s mom and dad.

My deepest condolences to Matt's family. He was a dear friend to many people, including myself, despite not having been in touch with him for a while.
This is the only solo photo I have of him. Every other photo I have is with one or more people, which shows how much we all loved him and enjoyed his company.
I'll miss the rides in the Beretta, him saying "PURE JOKE" with such emphasis and enthusiasm (lol), and one of the only guys I know to have the same cell phone number as long as I've known him.
"Tapper"/"Nurse" will be forever missed by us all.

A thousand moments I had just taken for granted, mostly because I assumed there would be a thousand more. You gave me a lifetime of memories filled with laughter. If I was feeling down at work, you always made me feel better by making me laugh. I will miss hearing you ask "come for a walk, walk with me" or "hey darlin' " or "step into my office come chat". They are a constant reminder of a story I never expected to end. I always have and always will smile when I think of you Matt. You will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to the family.
