Obituary of Alan Grant McLaren
Peacefully, on Saturday afternoon, July 29, 2023 A. Grant McLaren passed away and is now re-united with his beloved wife Marilyn (nee Clyde) who left us suddenly in 2015. Grant was to turn 89 on August 7th. Loving Father of Faith (Greg), Ian (late Debbie), Alan (Elzbieta) & Douglas (Ana). Grant also leaves cherished grandchildren Melissa, Kristin, Jeffrey, Emily, Ashley, James & Sami & great grand-daughter Aralyn. Grant was preceded by his parents Edwin P. & Amy S. McLaren, sister Marjorie (King), brothers David and Ian and grand-daughters Amy & Laura.
Grant spent 20 years at the City of Nepean Finance Department, preceded by several start-up firms in the early days of what emerged to be the Ottawa area's communications technology sector. He started his working career at the Bank of Nova Scotia, Lanark Village Branch at the age of 15. This was followed by a stint in the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Ontario Department of Highways. Grant excelled at school, but the early start to working life was borne out of a duty to support his family after the loss of his father.
Grant was a true gentleman, a great observer of people, with a courteous kind soul and well developed sense of small-town humour. He was proud of his family history in the Lanark area.
Grant was often approached as a source of advice because of his honest humble nature. He inspired his children to be the be the best wife or husbands and parents they can possibly be this legacy will continue. He will be dearly missed by his children, grand-children and many family and friends. We thank the staff at Robertson House & Champlain LHIN who have persevered with considerable adversity to help Grant cope through a difficult dementia pathway over the past 5 years.
A private family service will be held. You can watch the livestream of the Memorial Service HERE
In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, Bruyere Memory Care or a charity of your choice in Grant’s memory.
