Obituary of Lorna Hammond
Lorna Hammond left us on Thursday, June 8, 2023, a week shy of her 83rd birthday. She leaves behind her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Earl, as well as their three children, Scott (Janet), Blair (Naida Hyndman), and Russell (Tanya Turner), and five grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Kenny, Brett and Geoffrey. She is also survived by her younger sister, Lynn Price, and her cherished cousin, Anne MacAulay. Lorna was predeceased by her parents Gp Capt David and Alexandra Price.
Lorna was born in Halifax, NS and moved across Canada with her military family before becoming settled in Ottawa in the early 1950’s. Lorna graduated from Glebe Collegiate Institute (1958) and then the Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing (1961), before commencing a distinguished nursing and occupational health career that spanned over 35 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who put family above all else. When not attending to the needs of those around her, she enjoyed spending time at the family cottage at Golden Lake and then later at Lake Placid, traveling the globe (often on her bike), knitting and crafting, tending to her beautiful gardens, and caring for her many Labradors and Wheaton Terriers.
A Memorial Service will be held at Cole Funeral Services & Pinecrest Remembrance, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lorna can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Ottawa Humane Society.
Lorna will be forever remembered and loved by her family, friends and the many others whose lives she touched. Lorna and her family are thankful for the support of her many friends and neighbours who helped her through her journey. Special thanks are also extended to the compassionate staffs at the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre and the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital for providing her with outstanding care.
