Obituary of Savita Khakhria
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Savita Rasik Khakhria (Rabheru), age 78 years, in Ottawa on 12 April 2023, peacefully while surrounded by her family. She was born in Gujarat (India), raised in Zanzibar (East Africa) and settled in Ottawa after a brief stay in London (UK). Beloved wife of Rasik Khakhria, mother to Nipa, Bharat and Risha. Devoted grandmother to Rikesh, Shain, Diya and Jai.
Savita was an active member of the local Gujarati community and assisted many new immigrants settle in Canada. A woman of deep faith, and a devotee of Shri Jalarambapa, she strongly believed in the dignity of access to food for all. She felt blessed for the love and support she had received throughout her life, and believed in paying it forward through generous donations to various philanthropic and humanitarian causes, and by supporting many community and temple projects over the years. She was creative and entrepreneurial, working on several ventures before enjoying a career in the former Department of Communications.
Friends and family may pay their respects at a visitation to celebrate her life, on Friday April 14, 2023 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa. In keeping with her wishes, the funeral will be private.
