Obituary of Judith Dorothea Gerwing

Judith Dorothea Gerwing (nee Schrader) age 61. Judy passed into the arms of her loving lord on April 6th, 2023. She passed at her home surrounded by the family she loved dearly, her husband, Dave, and son and daughter, Joshua and Jessica. Judy was born July 3rd, 1961, in Regina Saskatchewan and attended school there until she moved to Saskatoon to enroll in the University of Saskatchewan where she convocated with Degrees in Biology and Dietetics. It was here where she met Dave, and they fell in love and were married in 1986. Judy was predeceased by her father Eldon Schrader, and older sister Sandra Greenough. Judy’s mother Dorothea resides in Surrey BC, where her younger sister Sheri Persing also lives with her husband Eldon.

Judy struggled through a 30-month battle with stage four endometrial cancer, diagnosed late due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The original prognosis was three to 12 months but with chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation treatments and the excellent care provided by the many doctors and nurses at the Ottawa hospital, Judy enjoyed another two summers. She spent this time doing the things she loved: boating, gardening and being with her precious family.

Judy was a caring and loving mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend to many, she will be missed dearly, and her joy of life and love will live on in her family’s hearts and in the many people she touched in her life as a registered dietician, choir member, and Scouts Canada leader.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Highland Park Cemetery 2037 McGee Side Road, Carp, on Thursday, April 13th from  6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Judith to the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Center would be appreciated.
