Obituary of Nancy Edmonds
After a courageous yet cruelly swift battle with cancer, Nancy Lorraine Edmonds (née Hunter) gently departed for her next journey before dawn on April 2, 2023, her 87th birthday. Nancy was the lovingly devoted wife of the late J. Duncan Edmonds, the immensely cherished mother of Rob and Lorrie, and an adoring grandmother to Dylan. Born in Thunder Bay, Ont. to Gwen and Norval Hunter and raised in the northern wilderness of Espanola, Ont., Nancy moved to Toronto where she met Duncan at age 15 at Etobicoke Collegiate. Upon completion of her B.A. at McGill, they married. Duncan's career took them to London UK, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Toronto, whereafter they settled their family in Ottawa. By 1986 and proudly holding her fresh M.A. in Library Science, new adventures took Nancy and Duncan to New Haven, CT. They returned from their Yale University stint to Morrisburg, Ont. on the St. Lawrence Seaway, where they launched an antiquarian book business. When their dream home appeared in Iroquois, Ont. in 1996, they lived happily in retirement on the St. Lawrence River waterfront. Voyages together took them to Africa, South Korea, China, Australia, Bali, Bermuda, Europe, the Caribbean, USA, across Canada and their adored UK. Nancy moved to Brockville, Ont. in 2021, adamant about staying close to the nourishment of her friends, her book clubs, and her beloved Seaway. Nancy is deeply missed by all who have loved her, learned from her and laughed with her. Sister Margaret Michalski (Michael), nephews David Michalski (Tiffany), Peter Michalski (Andrea), niece Hilary Doyle, the extended Edmonds and Hunter families, and many new, dear and lifelong friends all hold tightly to Nancy's memory. We offer our profound gratitude to Christina and staff at Brockville General Hospital Palliative Care unit for their utmost care, compassion and kindness. We thank Nancy's friends and family for their unwavering love and support.
