Obituary of Sarah Maureen Kearns

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on March 15th, 2023.

Mom was a spirited 86-year-old, whose sense of style was always on point and whose kind, loving demeanor was shared freely with all.  She loved to bake, cook, entertain, play cards, spend time with family/friends and was an extensive traveller during her life.

She will be incredibly missed by her four children and grandchildren.  Debbie Rome (husband Dave), children Mike (Larissa) & Sarah (Mark), Diane Kelly (husband Tim) children Patrick(Alicia) & Gabriel(Taylor), Bryan de Lottinville (wife Jana), children Annabelle & Adam, Karen de Lottinville (husband Tim Dillon), children Matthew (Lauren) & Laura (Doug), stepchildren Jennifer & Brent and GG to Ross & Quinn.

Mom was an incredible woman and single mother who raised 4 children in less-than-ideal circumstances.  She learned to drive a car at 37 years old, took up downhill skiing in her 50’s, learned to play piano in her 60’s, took Spanish lessons in her 70’s and truly was a lifetime learner.  She passed her love and knowledge of gardening to her daughters. The flowers that bloom in our gardens will forever keep her close.  Mom looked forward to her trips to Hawaii and Atlanta, plus many out-of-town visits to see other family members. We were very blessed to have spent many wonderful holidays with her, plus, so many fun Sunday night dinners, punctuated with loud card games.

Grandma, Nana Banana, Nana and The Nan were loving names that her grandchildren will forever remember.  She will be fondly missed by many nieces and nephews as she was the matriarch of her generation for the extended family.  She made such wonderful friends that she cherished from her Glenview days, and new friends from her time at Timberwalk retirement residence.

We invite you all to celebrate our Mother’s life on Saturday April 29th at 3:30 pm at the Ironside Grill located in the Marshes Golf and Country Club, Kanata.
