Obituary of Lena Mars
Lena Mars, age 92, a resident of The Empress Kanata, passed away peacefully after a short stay in the palliative care unit in Elizabeth Bruyere. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Hennessey (Michel Beauvais). She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Edward, her partner of 20 years, Elwin Kennedy, her parents Anna and Peter Boychuck and her siblings Mary, Nick, Olive, Doris, Mike and Bill.
Lena was born and lived the first 60 years of her life in Smiths Falls. She worked most of her adult life at the Rideau Regional Centre, first as manager of the mending department then as manager of the laundry department after attending Guelph University and Algonquin College part-time to take the courses required to perform this latest job. She was an expert seamstress and made many of her outfits throughout her life.
In 1990, after her husband passed away, she decided to take a Christmas/New Year's cruise with her daughter rather than spending Christmas alone. As luck would have it, a well travelled, charming single gentleman sitting at their dining room table took a interest in accompanying her to many of the social activities. This interest continued once back home even though they lived in different cities. In the summer of 1991, Lena moved to Mississauga to be with Elwin and begin their journey of 20 wonderful years travelling the world until his death.
In 2011, Lena moved to Stittsville to be close to her daughter.
