Obituary of Joan M.H. Cotie (nee Matt)
Joan was born in Kemptville, Ontario where she was brought up by her grandparents. They dwelled in a log cabin by the river and lived mostly off the land. She shared her childhood and teenage years with cousins who were more like sisters, she spoke of times they spent together leaving fond, happy memories. Joan almost became a nun in her early 20s.
Married for 64 years, Joan leaves behind her beloved husband and soulmate Allen, and daughters Wendy and Wanda. She is also survived by her brothers Norman and Dennis, her grandchildren, Jessica, Cody, Katie, Madelaine, and Samantha, as well as great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Cameron, Zachary, and Kai.
Allen was in the car business (later a firefighter with Ottawa Fire) and she in finance, meeting first on the telephone in 1957, they married in 1958. The beginning of a love spanning over 60 years. The family camped for decades, making a wonderful life for us children. In retirement they spent 30 years as Snowbirds until Covid hit and changed our world.
She had the kindest, warmest heart and thought and prayed for her loved ones and anyone else in need. She spoke to God each day and was true to her Lord until she was taken from us.
Rest in Peace, you are always with us. Our hearts are broken. Joan had a beautiful heart and soul and will never be forgotten.
