Obituary of Valerie (Val) Edmondson (nee Mapleston)
Peacefully at home with her family by her side, Val's beautiful life ended after a brief illness. Val was born in Manchester, England and moved around the UK before immigrating to Canada with her parents Bess and George and siblings in 1952. Wife of the late Jack, with whom she shared a passion for boating and travelling, visiting over 65 countries together. Val knew her way around a sewing machine, a crossword, and a sale rack; she made intricate dresses and baby blankets, solved crosswords, and found many treasures at local shops. She was a pioneer as a woman in science & tech, a talented crafter, and had a kind and generous heart. Most of all, she was proudly devoted to her family and her dog Gabe, who all brought her great joy. Left to mourn with cherished, loving memories are sons Steve (Leah), Andy (Lindsay), and Mike (Sarah); grandchildren Dan (Julia), James, Erika (Damon), Chris, Caitlin (Rob), Hannah (Wyatt), and Connor; siblings Gwen (Terry), Harvey (Denyse), Glynne (Penny), and Brenda (Marcel); as well as extended family in Canada and the UK. She made friends everywhere she went and will be missed by many including those from Mission Thrift, Arlington Woods, and BNR. Special thanks to Dr. Douglas and the LHIN for showing Val such compassion and comfort in her final days. We invite you to enjoy a rum & coke, bake shortbread, or watch Jeopardy to celebrate Val's life and the profound impact she had on all those she shared it with. Family will receive friends and loved ones at Arlington Woods Church on Jan. 6, 2023 as of 10a.m, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Care Ottawa are appreciated.
