Obituary of Elyse Cragg
It is with deep grief that we share the sudden and unexpected passing of Elyse Woodward Cragg on Wednesday October 19, 2022.
Elyse adored and cherished her son Knox with every fibre of her being. She was naturally creative, with a passion and drive to make things more beautiful, and the talent to make it happen with hands-on craftsmanship, art, and home design & construction.
Elyse also had a wicked, cackling laugh that could light up a room. She loved to travel and explored the world, from East Asia to Europe to Central America and more, with friends and on her own. She was courageous without being fearless, determined without being sure, both sensitive and incredibly tough. She had a loving heart that created space for those who needed to talk, and was compassionate and empathetic to people at their worst moments. She is deeply, profoundly loved.
Elyse was born and raised in Ottawa, educated at King’s College and Dalhousie University in Halifax, and settled in Montreal. For the past 12 years she has worked at McGill University, most recently as Associate Director of Communications, Student Life and Learning.
Elyse leaves behind her son Knox, partner Owain, parents Jim & Barbara, sisters Margot, Alanna, Nicole (and her partner Rory), and her nephews Taigen and Max, as well as much-loved and loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Rd, Ottawa on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 2 p.m. followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Elyse’s name can be made to the Education Savings Fund for Knox, who was Elyse’s sun, moon, and stars, or to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
