Obituary of Joan McVichie
Joan McVichie passed away peacefully in the care of her loving family at her daughter & husband's cottage retreat in the fresh air, lakes & hills near Mont Tremblant, Québec soon after turning 85.
Joan was born to parents Donald John & Hilda Elizabeth (née Roy) McVichie & grew up on the family farm near the village of Bainsville, in the easternmost corner of Ontario. She was predeceased by her older brothers, Roy McVichie & John Ronald McVichie & Ronald's wife Mary Helen (née McIntyre) McVichie. She was also predeceased by her former husband & her children's father, William Joseph Cashion.
She is survived by 3 adult children & their spouses. First born son, Tyler Cashion & his wife, Louise Rogers-Cashion, second born son, Ryan Cashion & her third born daughter, Kara Jo Cashion & her husband Brent MacGillis. She is also survived by her long-time former companion, Norman R. Barry & his family.
She will also be dearly missed by her two grandchildren, Hayden & Nolan Cashion, her many nieces & nephews across Canada, her first cousin Heather Brownlee, cousins & neighbours she grew up with & distant cousins that she found through researching her family tree in retirement.
Joan had a wealth of other lifetime friends she remained in contact with from childhood, high school in Alexandria, Ontario, nursing school days in Cornwall, Ontario, graduating in 1959, many wonderful colleagues & long-time friends she met when she changed from nursing to become a highly-valued social worker with the City of Ottawa.
Joan benevolently chose to donate her body to science with the University of Ottawa.
A Celebration of Life in the style of a joyous Irish Wake for a true Scot party is planned for the afternoon of Sunday October 23nd, 2022 in Downtown Ottawa.
