Truly saddened that Vince passed away. I knew him in the early ’90s when we both worked at Evert Communications. Vince and I would talk about our beloved Expos and how they always seemed to field a winning lineup but couldn’t make it into the post-season. Sooo frustrating! Vince had a sharp, analytical mind and could easily size up the Expos’ weaknesses and how to fix them. He should’ve been their GM! He used his analytical mind every day in his work. And he combined it with the instincts of a seasoned reporter to sniff out interesting stories and write them with his usual flair. He was a good writer and was proud that he knew how to spin a good story. Sometimes he’d read me the lead of an article he was writing, then he’d stop and look at me as if to say, “Nailed it!” Vince was passionate about the subjects he covered – science, research, innovation – almost as passionate as he was about the Expos. It was this passion that spawned Vince’s brainchild, the science industry newsletter Re$earch Money, focused on the financial forces driving scientific innovation. Vince came up with the idea for the newsletter and eventually convinced his boss to back it, with Vince as the founding editor. Thirty-five years later, Re$earch Money continues to publish news about science investment and it stands as Vince’s great professional legacy. He was a journalistic visionary, but more importantly a friend and a helluva good guy. One of the very good ones.

Vince was an engaging, interesting person with a great knowledge of (and many views on) science and technology as well as numerous contacts and friends in the business, research and tech news communities. He was also very open and honest about his life and health challenges. I will miss our many pleasant conversations.

Vinnie was my best friend as a child and the cutest kid. Many days were spent playing all kinds of games in the park and on the street. I will miss teasing him and making and hearing him laugh which carried into adulthood. He could talk for hours and go from one topic to the next - half the time I couldn’t understand him because he was so smart and knowledgeable. Rest In Peace my Dear Cousin Vinnie you will be missed.
