Upon reading about her father's time working for Parliament, I recalled a story Lenny told about her male relative who escaped the fire by swinging out the window on an upper floor to safety using the drapes. It was her grandfather. His name was Walter Hill, and this Ottawa Citizen article (https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/the-night-parliament-burned) explains that he was a Steward at Parliament building on night of the 1916 fire. It talks about how he used the curtains to escape! It adds even more to her family connection to the House of Commons.

I'll always have the memories of the outings we have when I visit her. Lenny, Joan and myself would go to the casino and race track for lunch and play the slots and watch the horses training on the track. That was one of the main stop we did when I visited. Lenny knew that I would be interested in the horses . I got to watch the trotters. It was a enjoyable and great outings we had. We went to the hairdresser together and met a great bunch of people. Everyplace we went was fun.
A long time ago she came to LA. I took her all over. We visited the Queen Mary and many other places. She couldn't get over on how many freeways we went on. That day she counted them and it was 5. It is so different than Ottawa with 1 Queensway.
I am glad I got to spend the Many times together.
Will Miss you Lenny RIP
Love Sheila

In Memory of Lenora Hill Known to Friends as Lenny
Lenny will always be remembered for her smile and vivacious personality.
I remember the tremendous respect and love of her family and friends she loved life and fun and frequently gave spontaneous parties.
She was a devoted lover of animals, in particular, her black spaniels who were her constant companions for many years.
I recall many happy hours spent with Lenny and her parents at their home on Alta Vista and at the cottage, which was a great love of hers.
Lenny loved to dress up but was equally comfortable at her cottage in shorts , blouse and sandals.
She always remembered birthdays and enjoyed celebrations she had a great memory; she remembered the names of my friends and family and took a great interest in them.
Lenny loved to travel to exotic paradise islands with her longtime friends Vi, Joyce or Iona.
She had an excellent sense of humour and an infectious laugh.
Reading about royalty was truly a passion and she would get up at some ungodly hour to watch a royal wedding on television and insist upon a champagne toast for the occasion.
Lenny has been my special friend for over 50 years. Even during my years in UK and my more recent relocation to California we were in constant contact by phone.
Rest in peace my beloved friend. You will be so sadly missed by me, Floyd and my family and friends who have known you for so many years.
With fondest love Annie Pannie and Floyd May, 2022.

Aunt Lenore was a steadfast, loyal, and loving friend to my Mother (Jeannie) which, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you looked at it, left her wide open to a lifetime of the pranks and practical jokes of my Father (Gordie). And so my memories of her from when I was a child, teenager, and then adult, are filled with much laughter and spilled tea. She was a role model to me, especially driving her convertible and looking so beautiful!
I was blessed to often be invited to join Aunt Lenore, Aunt Mabel, and my Mother at various events at the NAC, most frequently plays. It was always very instructive, watching their interactions and appreciating the longevity of their relationship; it even afforded me a glimpse into their lives as high school students and then as young office workers.
I want to send my heartfelt condolences to Cousin Sheila and to all of Aunt Lenore's old friends, most of whom I met over the years. It has been eons since Sheila and I teamed up during her visits to Ottawa, and I would dearly love it if you would contact me, old friend, either via Facebook Messenger or email. I live in Sharbot Lake now, about an hour's drive southwest of Ottawa.
Goodbye, Aunt Lenore. May our good Lord hold you in His arms, always.
With Love and Thanks, Linda MacDonald
