Obituary of Barbara Ann Verner
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Barbara on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the age of 77 at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice. Daughter of the late Stuart and Margaret Moncur.
She leaves behind her beloved husband and soul mate of 58 years, Bob Verner.
Loving Mother of Shannon Celeste (Alain), Bob Verner (Trish), Jo-Ann Scrivener (Dave).
Cherished Grandma of Colleen (Martin), Nick (Natalie), Alissa (Jason), Jacob, Lisa, Jessi (Andrew), Tyler, Ruby and Jade.
Proud Great-Grandmother of Aubrey, Ariel, Alice, Amaya, Taden, Savannah, Leland, Alex and the late Aaria.
Dear sister of Julie Dunbar, Cathy MacKenzie (Bob) and the late Heather Butlin (Trevor). Sister-in-law of Bill & Jane Verner, Bruce & Linda Verner and the late Margaret Bourgon (Rick).
Special Aunt and Great-Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Pre-deceased by her lifelong friend of 73 years, Jennifer Bithell, we know they have reunited and are getting up to some shenanigans while watching over our families.
Many will remember Barb as the Blossom Park K-Mart courtesy counter representative, or the fan with the loudest cheer at the Ottawa 67s games, or the woman who proudly sang God Save the Queen and O Canada on Canada Day. She will be missed by her cat Sebastien and the many birds and little critters that would wait for her to feed them in her backyard each day.
Barbara loved her family first and foremost, though Rod Stewart was a close second. Her annual “Ottawa Tourist Days” were a highlight of the summer. In honour of Barbara, get together with family and be a tourist for a day in your city, preferably while wearing polka dots!!
All who know her will miss her great smile, her hilarious giggle, her compassion for others, and her uncompromising love for all her family and friends.
