Obituary of Carolyn Ruth MacLeod
Carolyn Ruth MacLeod, 60, passed away from Breast Cancer on Feb 18, 2022. Carolyn (“Car”) had an incredible zest for life. Her friends called her “Tigger” and like Tigger, Car was “fun, fun, fun”, generous, empathetic, and a loyal friend who touched the hearts of everyone she met. She loved to travel, read, ride horses and play sports (especially ringette). Her positive energy and enthusiasm for life were contagious and she made everyone she encountered feel happy.
Carolyn was an accomplished and dedicated Software Developer and her passion was ensuring the Accessibility of Computer Interfaces for people with disabilities. She contributed significantly to the evolution of this technology both inside and outside IBM for the benefit of all. Her cheerful, can-do attitude and bright smile will be missed by everyone she worked with at IBM and in the broader Accessibility community. Busy as she was, Carolyn always made time for others. We always admired Carolyn’s commitment to her family and friends.
Carolyn is survived by her son, Jeffrey Thomson, husband Dave Thomson, parents John and Pat MacLeod, sister Audrey Forgeron, brother Darryl MacLeod, and mother-in-law Marilyn Thomson. Words can not describe the loss and emptiness we feel. There is a little less light in the world today.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 23 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm at Pinecrest Remembrance, 2500 Baseline Road. Out of town attendees are welcomed to join virtually. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Speak Your Mind Foundation or Cancer Research Society.
Please note: Proof of vaccination is required at the request of the family. Please respect the 6-foot social distancing mandate as well masks are required to be worn over the mouth and nose at all times unless sitting to eat in the designated Solarium suite. Please also refrain from touching and hugging.
