Born in Raymond, AB, Bert joined the RCAF at a young age and was flying planes by age 19. He was a Mechanical Engineer as well as an Aeronautical Engineer and as squadron leader was well liked and respected. Bert was an avid skier and also enjoyed his books, dancing, golfing, and skating on the canal outside his door. With his adventurous nature and big bear hugs he was loved by all who knew him.

Beloved husband of Eleanor (Pike). Predeceased by son Randy Leavitt (Susan). Greatly missed by son John Leavitt (Jennifer), step-daughter Karin Sharp, grandsons Alex (Lindsey), Andrew, and Graham Leavitt, step-grandchildren Kyle Kearnan (Erin), Katie Plummer (Brad) as well as great-grandchildren Leo, Mallory, Kalub, Blake and Wilder. Very special thanks to the staff at QCH especially the A4 Medicine unit for their compassionate and unwavering care.
