Obituary of Sylvia Hernandez

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Hernandez on the evening of December 26, 2021 at Valley Stream Manor Retirement Home.

Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Peter and her son Peter, her mother Maude, her father Arthur and two sisters, Enid and Ena and brother, Sonny. She is the mother of Francesca (Gary), Ronald, Carlos and Raymond.

Sylvia was a gentle, kind, strong, and quiet woman.  Sylvia was the glue that bound our family together.  She was a very loving and caring grandmother to Samantha (Jason) and Stefanie (Jonathan). She adored her five great grandchildren (Sebastian, Benjamin, Charlotte, Isla and Eva). Sylvia loved children and her “babies” always brought a smile to her face.

Sylvia was born on December 13, 1920 in Trinidad and immigrated to Canada as a new bride accompanying her husband in 1948.

Sylvia worked at the Ottawa Civic Hospital for 25 years as a clerk in Central Supply assisting many fellow employees with job and personal concerns showing her compassion and empathy.

Throughout her life, Sylvia brought joy and happiness to so many people. Sylvia enjoyed celebrating every special occasion, especially Christmas, in her home by sharing many delicious meals with family and friends. Our Momma always put family first and would go out of her way to ensure that we were safe and sound. Sylvia will be deeply missed by her family and friends across the globe but her legacy as a strong and loving woman will continue to live in our hearts.

Due to Covid restrictions a Celebration of Life ceremony will be conducted at a later date at Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel.
