I have many fond memories of Jim. He was officially my brother-in-law, but he was as close as a brother, and as protective as a father. He helped me with school projects, he helped me buy my very own first house, he scrutinized subsequent house purchases, he sat in my house waiting for service calls while I worked. I can't count how many times he drove me to, and picked me up from, the airport. Once, before cell phones, he waited at the airport until 2:00 a.m. for a flight that was cancelled and I had no way of letting him know of the cancellation. And he never criticized me for my many mistakes. But most of all, he will be remembered for his sense of humour. The last comment the staff at Ruddy Shenkman Hospice (who were amazing) made was that they were grateful to have met him and that he was "a hoot" and kept them laughing. What a soldier he was to keep others laughing when he knew he was dying. I will miss him.
