To the family of Robert:
It is with heavy heart that I learnt about Rob's passing this afternoon through an email sent to me from one of the superior officers with whom I worked with in my previous unit, the MPC (Military Personnel Command), which was where I got to know Rob.
For the short time I have known and worked with Rob, he was a fellow officer, who was very friendly, helpful, cheerful and proud army logistic officer whom I have both the honour and pleasure of not only working along side as a colleague and brother-in-arms, but a friend. I am really sorry for your loss and I would have wanted to attend the service but I only got the sad news this afternoon...
Please accept my most sincere condolences, both my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Rob: RIP my brother, thank you very much for the time we had together and also for your service to our great country.
With a heavy heart,
Your former colleague at MPC, your brother-in-arms and your friend.

I am so very sad to hear of Rob’s untimely passing. Rob worked with us at the MUN alumni office for a brief while but during that time he brought much laughter to those of us who worked with him. He would walk around the Long Pond trail with me during lunchtimes so I wouldn’t have to walk alone. I was so very fond of Rob and deeply sad to hear of his passing. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Rest In Peace Rob.

I first met Rob while working base side at CFB Shilo. Not only was he a top-tiered Officer, the best-of-the-best, but he was also a kind, compassionate, and caring human being who was deeply admired and respected by those who had the privilege of serving with him. He was one of the funniest person I have ever met, with a great sense of humour, and the most infectious laugh. He often spoke of his three beautiful daughters, usually about something hilarious or cute one of them had said or did, and finished the story with "yeah, kids are great." Also, so many other stories had started with "My best friend Tony..." It is quite wonderous to witness how he shaped the lives of those around him, and likewise how those around him shaped him. My deepest condolences to his family and all those who are in mourning due to this heartbreaking loss. I will be raising a glass in his memory.

My condolences to Rob's family. Rob and I served together as junior officers in 36 (NFLD) Svc Bn. We had a strong core of young officers, who shared a special bond. Rob was always at the center of the group. While we both eventually headed to the mainland and different jobs/units in the CAF, we would occasionally cross paths and reminisce about the good old days. You have left us much too early.

Nancy, Andrea, Robyn and Robbies children,
We are truly saddened and devastated to hear of Robs sudden passing. We have many fond memories over the years with family gatherings and special occasions. A year before the the pandemic, we were so blessed to have Rob, Robyn and her boys who Rob loved dearly vacation with us at home. Rob would always talk of his girls who he loved with all of his heart and who was the rock for his sisters Andrea and Nancy. A special thank you to Robyn, his partner, for all the support and love you had for Rob. Will forever miss you cousin!

What can I say about Rob Kelly. Roberto. Robes. He helped me out when I was at my lowest point he stood by me every night. We party hard back in those days. Getting into trouble up behind the Zellers in the woods. He always had my back. He was my wing for along time. Though we drifted apart we kept in touch. I regret not getting to Ottawa one summer to hear Motley Crue play. We love listening to Motley Crue. We were supposed to get to old gang back last year and go see Barry. Then the pandemic hit. I would of liked to seen and talked to Rob one last time. Raise a beer and talk about the old days. Rob was a loving father and a great friend. My condolences to all his family. He will be missed
Until we meet again brother because I'm proud to call you my brother. Maybe you can teach me to finally play a guitar. Rock out to Dr. Feelgood. I raise my glass to you. Cheers. We love and you and you will be missed your friend Dale.

It’s surreal to be writing this here. Rob and I became fast friends the first time we met. We developed a special friendship that was affected by neither time nor distance. I’ll always consider him my best friend. There were a lot of wild times, but the times that stand out to me now are the ones hanging out on Bonavista Street with afternoon drinks and guitars, hours sitting at Tim Hortons chatting about everything under the sun, sitting on my parent’s deck with Tony before our downtown adventures. No matter what we did there were always lots of laughs. Rob’s sense of humour, ability to laugh at himself, ability to listen and not judge are all qualities we should strive for, and are what made him such a great friend.
Andrea, Nancy, Grace, Ava and Claire, my heart is with you in this difficult time.
Robyn, thank you so much for all you did for Rob and for keeping us all posted. Rob was lucky to have you in his life. Condolences to you and your children.
Rest in peace brother, you are loved.

I don’t even know where to start. You’ve been my friend since i was 15. We babysat your little sister, partied and shared many a cup of tea over the years. I could always confide in you and you always gave me your true thoughts - Even if they were more brutally honest than I wanted to hear. That was your best quality really.. you never sugar coated anything.
I’m glad we were able to reconnect when I moved to Ottawa. You were the same Rob, only now a big army man who accomplished so much. You deserved every ounce of your success and I was so happy for you.
Thank you for never changing. I will forever be proud to say that you were my friend.
Sending love and light to your sisters, children and partner during this difficult time.

What to say on this sad day? Rob had a vivacious spirit for life. As a teenager, a group of us found one another and forged a lifetime of memories. More importantly, An old friend passed today. One of the crew of us from high school. Too soon. Not fair. And never easy. RIP my friend. Your death has brought many of us back together. We laugh about all the great memories with you. Your life meant something to us all and it helped shape a set of wonderful values, morals and ethics that always reminded us to be good to one another. May you find peace. We love ya. Big hugs to your family Rob. May your spirit live on in the arms of your wife and children. ❤️

I’m still feeling somewhat shocked by the death of Rob. Rob was taken much to early in life. He was the best man for my husband at our wedding and someone who I felt would be in our lives for decades to come. My fondest memories of Rob are the times he and I would sit at my kitchen table drinking tea and chatting while waiting for Tony to come home. During the times that I cooked he would pretend the food tasted good. Rob was kind and had a wonderful sense of humor, I knew I could always count on him if I needed anything.
To you Grace, Ava and Claire, you were your dads’ biggest joys in life. Grace as a small baby you looked like a clone of your dad, I enjoyed spending time with you on the odd evenings when Tony and I got to babysit. Please know how much he loved each of you and how much he would want you to be happy. You probably don’t remember us (as military postings can make it difficult to stay in close proximity to friends) but please know that you can reach out to Tony or myself in Newfoundland for anything at anytime.
To you Robyn, I have never had the pleasure of meeting you but the love you have shown to Rob is obvious, and he to you. The last few months has been truly terrible but you have been so strong....for him and your children. Thank you for the kindness to my husband and Jason last week as each of you along with Robs family navigated the pain of his last week. It is comforting to know he was able to spend his last few days with his best friends, some family and his beautiful partner in life.
Hugs,
Lori McDonald

My condolences to the family. I knew Rob from 36 (Nfld) Svc Bn when he was a junior officer in my company. He was an outgoing and gregarious soldier with a great sense of humor. He was a natural and competent leader who was respected by all. Last time we met was in 2008 when he was a proud member of 2 Svc Bn.

Where to start? Rob was my best friend and truly one of a kind. The experiences and laughs we shared are too vast to list and, in many cases, would require an R-rating. I will take great comfort in those memories for the rest of my life. From our days as kids in Beaconsfield, to our time serving in the Canadian Army, Rob was a legend. Whether it was sitting on Mike’s patio listening to Bruce Springsteen or drinking beers at Jason’s place on Hayward Ave, every minute was a riot; the party never really started until Rob got there. I loved him like a brother and the feeling of loss right now is immeasurable. To his three beautiful girls, know that your father loved you beyond measure. Some years back he and I took our kids camping in QC and I could see how good of a Dad he was. He spoke of you all the time and was immensely proud of you all. I am most sorry for your loss and hope some day you understand how much he adored you three. Rest in peace my brother.

So sorry for your loss. I soldiered with Rob in Petawawa, Ottawa, and various other locales across Canada and around the globe. Professional without exception, an officer and leader dedicated to his Unit, Subordinates, Peers, and Superiors, he made everyone who worked with him better. Rob lived his professional and personal lives with great zest and humour and loved his family, his country, and his profession greatly and in equal measure. Rest easy, Brother.

I completed basic training with Rob and was a mbr of 36 Svc Bn with him for a couple years, we've grown apart as most of us do in this profession/lifestyle, but I still remember hearing his laugh many times as we were put through the ringers of that course. RIP Rob, and my condolences to your family!!!!!
