Obituary of Barbara Joyce Rider

Heartbreakingly and unexpectedly Barbara Joyce Rider, passed away on June 10, 2021, with her cherished daughter Kelly and her grandson Austin by her side. She lived this life amongst dear friends and family, and she left this life amongst dear friends and family. There is great solace in knowing that Barb is reunited with her parents Lorne and Joyce Henderson, her husband Michael and her son David.

Left to celebrate her life are her daughter Kelly, her grandson Austin, and an incredibly large and precious group of friends and family that Barb cherished as the greatest treasures in her life.

Barbara was a nurse, a wife, a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, a life long friend, a caretaker, a keeper of secrets and a mender of hearts, and she lived each of these roles with the same ferocious singlemindedness that was uniquely Barb. She may not always have told you what you wanted to hear but you were always better for hearing it.  Barb lived a great life, with great love and great loss and met it all with the proud dignity of her roots. She never stopped giving back to her community through volunteering, and by donating her time and talents wherever and whenever they were needed.

She loved quilting, sewing, baking, gardening, travelling at home and abroad, most recently to Ireland and British Columbia, and lest we forget, taking care of Oscar and Felix…” the boys”. There is more to say here than could ever be written because Barbara Joyce Rider, achieved what we all hope to achieve. She lived a life worth remembering, in a way worth celebrating! 

Due to Covid restrictions a private family service will be held at Pinecrest Cemetery with a celebration of life to follow later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Humane Society or a donation to a charity of your choice in Barb’s honor.
