Obituary of Lorne Alfred Read
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Lorne Alfred Read on Sunday May 9th, 2021, Mother’s Day. In his way, it might have been his plan to be sure that sons David and Bruce, both living out of town, would be here to provide support to his loving wife Joan of sixty-three years.
Lorne grew up in Westboro to parents Fred and Ethel along with surviving siblings Lois and Jean and pre-deceased siblings Ken, Donald, Art & Joan. With wife Joan, Lorne raised sons David and Bruce in Bell’s Corners, adding daughters in-law Barri and Brigitte. Proudly known as Pa to Cameron(Mallory), Ashlynn(Matt), Christopher, Chelsea, & Caden and Great Grand Pa to Cole & Blake.
Lorne leaves to mourn sister in-law Joan (Art), brother in law Barrie (Joan), sister in-law Helen and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Lorne was happiest and proud when with family and friends. He was especially proud that all his grandchildren are avid Ottawa Senator fans.
Lorne gave tirelessly to the community through the 60’s and 70’s coaching hockey and baseball in Bell’s Corners plus many roles with Nepean Minor Hockey Association. He was also an active member of the Nepean Lions Club through the 70’s and 80’s. Supporting minor sports and community was at the core of countless volunteer hours. After retirement Lorne was a familiar face to many local golfers as a course Marshal and as a Goodwill Ambassador at the Ottawa Senators games for many years.
Special thanks to the LIHN home support PSW’s and Nurses, Dr. Lisa Melienczuk & Carolyn, Dr. Patricia Mouaikel plus the many health care professionals for their special care.
