Obituary of John David Rimell

A legend has been lost, our bright light has gone out. It is with profound sadness and much love that we mourn the loss of John David Rimell, who passed away on April 29, 2021.  Born May 24, 1938, in Verdun, Quebec, to Mollie (Breeze) and John Percy Rimell.

Dave was a loving and committed husband of 44 years to Margaret until her passing in 2018; devoted father of Scott (Sue), Valerie, Alison (Matt) and Christina (Ryan); adored Grandpa to Ethan, Lily, Russell, Reid, Rosaleigh and Elvira; and brother to Linda. Predeceased by his parents.

Dave cherished being a family man. He had an infinite well of love, time and support for the people in his life. His words of guidance and wisdom were deeply valued and appreciated by many. His good humour was famed; anyone who knew him has a few good ‘Dave’ stories to share.

His old-school tenacity and innovative nature led him to a successful career as an entrepreneur in pharmaceutical communications.  He was an active volunteer with Big Brothers of Ottawa for many years.

Dave knew how to make the impossible possible.  He was one of those special people who had a way of connecting with anyone he met. With a mischievous twinkle in his eye he lit up the room and was the life of the party. His endless generosity and deep loyalty made Dave a beloved friend and mentor to many.

A sports fan through and through, Dave’s favourite pastime was baseball which he enjoyed in any capacity, player, coach, or die-hard Blue Jays fan.  Family time, fishing, cottage life, and a good meal were next in line. His joie de vivre brought much happiness to those around him.

A Celebration of Life will be held once pandemic restrictions are lifted. Please email drimell38@gmail.com if you would like to receive event details. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Lynwood Park Retirement Residence for their care and compassion. For those wishing, the family have designated the Heart and Stroke Foundation for memorial
