Obituary of Helen Caskie McAleese (nee Watters)

Passed away on April 8, 2021 at the age of 89 peacefully at home in Nepean, Ontario, Canada. Predeceased by her husband, Robert McAleese, parents Sam and Helen (Nellie) Watters and siblings Mary Torrance, John Watters, Sam Watters and Stewart Watters. Left to celebrate her life with fond memories are sister-in-law Margaret Ellis (nee McAleese) of Fort William, Scotland; and children Morag, Iain, Moira O’Neill (Gerry), Katrina (Denis Turbide), and Kirsteen.  Proud and doting Nana to grandchildren Kenneth, Brian, David, Rose, Rand, Ethan, Kayla, Lindsay, Gabriel and Samuel.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends in Canada, Scotland, Ireland, England, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

 

Born in Greenock, Scotland, Helen developed her impeccable fashion sense early by working as a seamstress and in retail in Greenock. She married Bob in 1952 and immigrated to Canada in 1957. They lived in Quebec, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia finally settling in Nepean, Ontario in 1977.  Mum continued to work in retail in Cornwall ON, St. John’s NL and retired from Woolco in Nepean ON in 1988.

 

Thank you to Dr. Brunei and the palliative team at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for the care that Mum received. Thank you to the Champlain LINH and Bayshore Home Care Solutions for the support that Mum received, allowing her to be home in her final days. A very special thank you to Dr. Jennings, the nursing staff, and all the wonderful support care workers.

A private service for the family celebrating Helen’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation in Helen’s memory, would be appreciated.
