Obituary of Madeleine Jeanne Heavenor
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our much loved mother, Madeleine Jeanne Heavenor (Rochon) on March 15, 2021. She will be missed by her daughters Susan (Richard Logie) and Anita, her grandchildren Shannon, Candice and Adam, and her great-grandchildren Gavin, Connor and Dylan. She was predeceased by her husband (Allan) to whom she was married for 71 years, and her sister (Olive).
Mom was born in Montreal but was raised in Ottawa. She spent most of her formative years attending Catholic Boarding Schools, and loved to tell tales of the mischief she and her friends would get into at school. Despite growing up in a somewhat strict environment, she became a free-spirited and independent woman.
In the late 1940s, while working for Transport Canada, Mom met Dad and they were married in 1949. That year, they built the house they would live in for almost 70 years. While Dad remained working for the government, Mom stayed home to raise her children. She was a great Mom and she loved us very much. She had a big heart, was always generous, and was there for us no matter what.
In 1957, Mom and Dad built their beloved cottage on Otter Lake. Mom was really a city girl, but once Dad built an addition that included indoor “facilities” she settled right in. She spent many summers at the cottage, and it became a favourite place for the whole family, including aunts and uncles and cousins, to gather and make wonderful memories.
Mom's real passions were travelling and fashion. Her favourite places to visit were Hawaii and Alaska. While she often travelled with Dad, she made many trips with her good friend Dorothy Marchand. Mom had a real love of fashion and loved to shop for clothes.
Mom's favourite saying was “More fun”, which was her way of making a negative into a positive. This outlook on life was one of her greatest strengths. We will miss her unconditional love and support, the twinkle in her eyes and her wonderful smile.
We are happy that she is now at peace and that she is once again reunited with our Dad.
