Obituary of Norma Ruth Williams

On Saturday January 2, 2021 Norma Williams: loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully with family by her side. 

Norma was born September 7, 1925 in Campbell’s Bay, Quebec to Olive and Arthur Somerville. As a young woman she moved to Ottawa and worked in the federal government where she met Richard Williams, her future husband. They were married on December 4, 1951 and started a family. Norma stayed home to raise her three daughters (Diane, Cheryl and Pamela). She had many interests and hobbies. She was in a bowling league for many years, loved swimming and yoga. She also found great joy in exercise classes and cross country skiing. She was very involved in her church St John the Divine.

Norma had a spirit that, anyone who knew her would tell you, was larger than life. She enjoyed the little things, like a home cooked meal. Grand adventurous things, like an Alaskan cruise and all the things in between that life had to offer. She was admired by her friends and family for the genuine nature of her soul. She was known for her infectious smile, her optimism and her kind heart. 

Norma was preceded in death by her father Arthur, her mother Olive, her husband Richard and her brothers and sister, Barry, Elwood, George, Joyce and Hawley. She is survived by her children, Diane (Rick), Cheryl and Pamela (Stephen). Her brother Glenn (Leslie) and her sister Shirley (Murray). Along with her grandchildren Scott (Nicole), Kim (Nick), Ivy and Wilson. And her great grandchildren, Colton, Olivia, Grayson, Miller, Dean and Lila. She will be greatly missed by her entire family and all the friends she has made through her church, her community, her travels and most recently Bridlewood Retirement Residence, where she made her home for the last six years.

There will be an intimate grave side service. Donations in Norma’s honour can be sent to the Elisabeth Bruyère Palliative Care Unit.
