Carl married my eldest sister Penny in 1960. He was very generous with his time and he treated me like his own 'kid brother'. He and Penny and I spent many times together at their cottage on the Severn River, on their boat (the Neptune) which Carl built, at Gravenhurst, where Carl's aunt and uncle had a vacation lodge. Carl and I spent many a weekend skiing at Blue Mountain in winters. He also employed me as a general labourer on many of his construction sites in and around Ottawa for many years. He had tremendous energy and was super-confident. I admired him a lot!

I first met Carl when he hired me for a contract to build and install a large cabinet for one of his clients. We quickly became fast friends. I greatly admired his relentless energy and enthusiasm, he always had a solution or two for any setback. Probably my best memory of him will be of how his huge smile would light up the room. Best advice he ever gave me? If you have anything you want to do in life, don't wait. Do it now. Thanks Carl, my life has been richer for you being in it.
