I did not have the opportunity to work closely with Henny. However, she was always sociable and friendly to everyone. I would like to extend my sympathy to her husband and children. I lost my wife to cancer some 15 years ago so have some idea of what her husband and children are going through. It is very difficult right now. Although time does help with healing, it never takes away the feeling of loss and all the good memories you have of her.

What a lovely lady we’ve missed. I bonded with her at the Ministry because I needed to make sure there was apple juice for her in the fridge She always looked out for the most vulnerable...kind heart. “That’s the Dutch in me”. she would say with a laugh when questioning government policy She wanted to make sure clients interests came first . To say that I admired Henny is an understatement. Henny was the personification of kindness , goodness, openness in her every day life. Henny quite literally changed my life. Her generosity in accepting me as a student for my necessary field work directly led me to a career in the social service world. She taught by example every day I was with her. We became friends and I know my life has been made richer with Henny in it. Our careers took a few different turns over the years but Henny was always in my heart. In recent years we were able to have a few lunches and dinner dates and even though her health was precarious she was still very anxious to engage in a lively discussion of the news of the day and to share family updates. I will remember Henny forever, I will chuckle at a few of our funny experiences and I will try to emulate her spirit and kindness in honour of her life. Henny you are missed, you are loved and your memory will endure in the hearts of many people. My heart goes out to Dave and to your siblings, grandchildren and all of your family, Henny was quite simply one of a kind and she will never to be forgotten. Love Mary

She was such a sweet & kind woman. I had the good fortune to be her friend & enjoyed meeting up with her occasionally for lunch & a good catch up session. Henny was my devoted and loyal friend for over 40 years. We knew each other so well, so deeply. That was a challenge occasionally, and that was a huge comfort almost always. She was one of my chosen sisters. Now she isn’t here for me, and I can’t be there for her. Henny was a tremendous person, a very fine person. She loved her family so very much. She was devoted. She loved her dogs. She was smart, intense, committed and serious in all tasks she took on. Sometimes she let herself just be loose and downright carefree and silly. In her work, she was hugely devoted to helping others with their struggles. She struggled and fought every day to keep her health, and yet she loved her life. Rest now my friend.

We are so sorry we can't be there for the service and couldn't see you one last time. Our condolences to Uncle Dave, as well as Henny's children and grandchildren and all her other family. I will always remember going to work with her for take you kid to work day as my parents worked at home. She bought me a tie bomber Micro machine that I think is still in my parents basement. Before I joined the military and had a family, we spent many Christmases with her, dave and his family.
