I offer sincere condolences to all of Helen's family. I have fond memories of the Monks when the operated their store on Merivale Road. So many of we kids who lived in the Vets homes visited that store and bought treats. Please take comfort in knowing that the Monk family remains in the memories of many folks from that area. Rest in Peace Helen.

I loved my Aunt Helen as a child. Who else would serve you rye bread toast and coke for breakfast? She taught me to play cribbage (and I loved this!) would not let me win. I can recall the steam coming out my ears in frustration as she skunked me again and again. She always told me what I should have done and made me a better player. Never did win as many as she did. She taught me to make easter eggs, make spool work rugs, and to knit. She would go from being my harshest critic to my fearless defender at the drop of hat. All she wanted was for me to be my best and to be safe and happy. Her generosity and love were constants as I grew. The endless hours in preparing for holiday gatherings, cooking, feasting, cleaning, and cooking again. When I was home from college she taught me her short-order cooking tricks that I was able to employ to impress my housemates and friends when cooking breakfasts-to order. I was always welcome on her doorstep, and she was a regular stop on my bike rides. All the birthdays, Holidays, and "just because we can get together" days are endless in my memory. I will miss her.

My deepest sympathy to Danny, Nancy and family. Auntie Helen had a heart of gold, and treated everyone like family. She was my “Fairy God Mother”, which meant the world to me. There will always be a special place in my heart for you. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. Auntie Helen your cribbage partner is waiting! Diane
